what if all the heavens fell

The Road to Enlightenment

LYRICS

Heavens Falling

I’ve been searching through the ages
Through a thousand pages
Looking for the answer
To break us from our cages
What’s a boy to do with a child for a parent
Fed up with his talents searching for the balance
Jesus on the radio said he came to pay this
I can’t see the light through the dungeon that replaced it
What if wicked men came and turned us to their idols
Placed a fortune left for measures never meant to be the treasure

What if all the heavens fell
Would it feel lighter in my mind
What if there’s a truth to tell
Would it feel brighter inside

So I’m crawling through my veins and I’m searching for the reason
All the songs with meaning have left us with our treason
What’s a boy to do with a God who knows perfection
I’m fed up with these questions I just want direction
Tell me prophet preacher man,
ever tasted bread from a garbage can
Now don’t you lie cuz God don’t like it
Tell me Billy Graham what’s the cost of heaven
In a land of silk and money is it meat or is it leaven

What if all the heavens fell
Would it feel lighter in my mind
What if there’s a truth to tell
Would it feel brighter inside
Inside..Inside..Inside.. INSIDE

I been searching through the ages
Through a thousand pages
Looking for the answer to break us from our cages
What’s a boy to do with a head full of pain
And a vision of the end in a field with no rain
I say pick up all your anger pick up all your danger
Crush all of your comfort make this world another stranger
Abolished and Abased and Disgraced and Erased
But no matter what they say I KNOW I WILL REMEMBER

State of the Union

I’ve seen how the road becomes covered in water
And when your visions impaired how you start to stutter
You try to make it home before night
You’re a liar
Ends justify the means
I guess you wanted a fire

WHOA OH OH OH

This cities’ cancer runs so deep
That no one can see it
I keep hiding away from you
I told myself that I’d start anew
But every time I see headlights see an alley see a fight
It reminds me I’m taking the blame
For everything that I done right

WHOA OH OH OH

Didn’t you make a promise
When you made promise were you a sleep
When you made a promise
Didn’t you make a promise
That you couldn’t keep

Now I’m trying to find myself
You somehow stole it all
So when I shake this dust from off my feet
I hope that you feel it fall
When I said I do I meant that I don’t
Believe in going it all alone
So when I said good-bye
I meant that I’d try
To know forever what I never thought I’d have to know

WHOA – OH-OH-OH

Didn’t you make a promise
When you made promise were you a sleep
When you made a promise
Didn’t you make a promise

What We Call Love

I got your cigarette breath in my hands
And your dancing down an unfortunate escalator
Maybe later we’ll talk about love
You’ve got a different tale of woes than the common carburetor
You left your gasket in your laundry basket
And in the refrigerator he stocks his love
But did you know

Did you know little darlin
There’s a bottle for every dream you could become
Did you know little sister
There’s a mister behind every sad woman
Did you know little darlin
There’s a battle
For every dream you could become
Did you know little sister
There’s a kiss behind every lying tongue

You’ve got me way left field right now
You said he did it one more time
He bruised your heart bruised your mind
No comment on your eye but maybe later we’ll talk about love
I said it once I said it twice
And with some help we’d stack your shelf full of hope but nope
It doesn’t do it for you
and now your dancing silly
But really… did you know

Did you know little darlin
There’s a bottle for every dream you could become
Did you know little sister
There’s a mister behind every sad woman
Did you know little darlin
There’s a battle
For every dream you could become
Did you know little sister
There’s a kiss behind every lying tongue

You’ve gotta sing a jingle… let down.. run down.. left out
Your water spouts dirty laundries dirty
And this is what we’ve called love
You better lend a hand to your man
Suckin on a lolly-pop working in a parking lot selling coffee
But there’s gotta be more to this life
To this love, is this love

DID YOU KNOW

Did you know little darlin
There’s a bottle for every dream you could become
Did you know little sister
There’s a mister behind every sad woman
Did you know little darlin
There’s a battle
For every dream you could become
Did you know little sister
Gonna miss you, GONNA MISS YOU …. GONNA

Backed Against the Wall

I see pictures of you in my mind
And you’re backed against the wall
There are pictures of us in the clouds in the sky
And we’re backed against the wall
Every time that we stumbled and this is a quote
You said that we’d “missed the boat”
We could’ve avoided the fall
Now I guess that we’ve missed it all

Don’t it make you wanna cry
All night long
Don’t it make you wanna cry
All night long
Don’t it make you wanna cry
All night long
Don’t it make you wanna cry

I could never explain myself
I was better at passing the ball
But when it comes to blame it’s a shame
I never deserved to make the call
But every time that I stuttered and this is a quote
Well I.. Well I.. just didn’t know
I guess that’s it’s over now
I guess that it’s over but even so

Don’t it make you wanna cry
All night long
Don’t it make you wanna cry
All night long
Don’t it make you wanna cry
All night long
Don’t it make you wanna cry

But you can’t know just what to do
Until you’ve walked a mile in your shoes

I see pictures of you in my mind
And you’re backed against the wall
There are pictures of us in the clouds in the sky
And we’re backed against the wall
I see pictures of you in my mind
And your backed against the wall
There are pictures of us ON THE WALL
And we’re BACKED AGAINST THE WALL

Don’t it make you wanna cry
All night long
Don’t it make you wanna cry
All night long
Don’t it make you wanna cry
All night long
Don’t it make you wanna cry

Never Saw It Coming

What’s this talk about money
I swear we work harder talking
And we’re already breaking our backs
But don’t this life break your heart dear
When you fell from heaven
Did you ever see this coming

Here I am writing another empty song
On another empty napkin
It was meant for tea and crumpets
But no matter how soft the cushion gets
This life will lie and that’s a fact
This world will leave you wanting
Before you ever saw it coming

I swear we’ll never have enough
We were never better off than when we had nothing
Nothing on lying underneath the stars
Now the sky looks like it’s falling
Tell me when we pictured heaven sweet darling
Did you ever see this coming
Did you ever see this coming
Did you ever see this coming

You’ll always have me
You’ll always have me
You’ll always have me
You’ll always have me

The Adventures of Tom & Huck

Me and Kim became friends on the streets of Diablo Negro
Carried a bottle of gin and a bottle of rum
To the place she called her haven
In a town full of drunks
In a world full of noise
We’d lay silent in the graveyard
And looking parallel across the tracks
A man shivered near the station

Kimmy said when will we die
I wonder when will we all die

Our buddies Tom and Huck
They used to try their luck
On the tracks early in the morning
And when the train came in
They would count to ten
And see who held their courage longer
One day at 2 AM the two of them
Chased a bottle of pills with vodka
And then they closed their eyes
And they looked to the sky
As the train came round the corner

That was the day Tom and Huck died
That was the day Tom and Huck died

And then Kim.. she’d look me square in the eyes
And then Kim.. she’d take a swig and she cry
If only.. If only I could fly
If only.. If only I could fly
La la la la la. La la la la la
La la la la la, La la la la la

Me and Kim were the best of friends
On the streets of Diablo Negro
Until I bought a ticket on a west bound train
Looking for a place a lot like heaven
No more tears no more fears
No more laying in the graveyards
And as for Kim for all I know
I’d like to think she found her wingspan

Set Your Love on Fire

I lay down and I lye to myself
About things under the sun being different
And I try and I try… and I try… and I try
But I know I will never be enough for you

Now I’m a broken-hearted beggar
I’m on my knees again begging please again
But anyway I’m anywhere from knowing where I could have been
If only I’d taken different steps on the same track

You set your love on fire
When the wind blows
I guess out it goes again
You said my love was a bottle you’d choose to open
Now I’m your broken piece of glass
You said my love was a fire
When the wind blows
Out I go again
I set my love on your wire
I got tired of you walking all over it

I walk in and I turn
Then I turn round again
And we try not to say what we think in the end
Too many times I’ve tried
You’ve tried.. we’ve tried
It aint never getting better
This is not the kind of fight that you win
Oh Whoa Oh

You set your love on fire
When the wind blows
Out it goes again
You said my love was a bottle you’d choose to open
Now I’m your broken piece of glass
You said my love was a fire
When the wind blows
I guess out I go again
I set my love on your wire
I got tired of you walking all over it

BURDEN

I’m tired of resisting arrest
I’m tired of resting my head on cement
With no one to look to but me
My home is the street that I roam
My family died a long time ago
Amidst the night and they were begging for the right to dream
Begging for a dime hear my piece of mind

If I make it through the night
Under your skin I’m sinking in
If I die alone
Would you bury my burden
Bring peace in the morning Lord

I’m tired of resisting arrest
I’m tired of reading the tabloid of scum
My name is the bum and I’m dreaming
Dreaming of a day
When I will meet my maker in the sky
Make it home alive to my giver
And I will receive much more than your beatings
A couple of meals and we’re fine-dine-eating

If I make it through the night
Under your skin I’m sinking in
If I die alone
Would you bury my burden
Bring peace in the morning Lord

NO HOME NO HOME
NO HOME NO HOME

DEAL WITH THE DEVIL

The world promised you a God who existed in a powerful feeling
The world promised you his healing
But your prayers only reached the ceiling
The world promised you a heaven
Where the streets are paved with gold
Where the last shall but first
But here the last are left out in the cold

And now you want to make a deal with the devil tonight
Well allright, Well allright
He’ll promise you the truth and he’ll promise you light
But it’s night
It’s night

So you climb the highest ladder
Because the biggest Gods live in the sky
But your silver and your gold
Can’t atone for the fact that you die
So you climb another mountain
And you trade another truth for a lie
While the treasures at the base of the mountain
On the other side

And now you want to make a deal with the devil tonight
Well allright, well allright
He’ll promise you the truth and he’ll promise you light
But it’s night
It’s night
It’s night

Now you’re lying against the door
Back against the floor
Now you’re lying against the door
Your back against the floor
You’re thinking..
I want something more than they seem to be selling
I want something more than you seem to be selling
I want something more
Something more

I say that man has been a man since the days and the nights of old
Just like the prophets and the poets told us
We would never hear what we’re told
I say that God and the angels
are the diamonds hiding out in the coal
We’re looking for the diamond
but we buy the first diamond we’re sold
As for the least of the greatest…
Not a church not a hand to behold
They say that hell is real hot
I say that hell is looking real damn cold

ODE TO THE PRINCESS

When you were young you took all your belongings to the river
Bathed in sun and sky
Until they watched you shiver
Counted dandelions
You’d count your steps and hide your tracks
You’d always steer clear of the cracks

Now you pick your pedals by the sidewalk Super Saver
You’ve come to find there are only 34 finest flavors
You’ve blossomed into quite the
Picture perfect best behavior
But deep inside you wonder…
What’s the point of this
No questions asked
Just find your frog and kiss

You’ll will become all that you can become if you
Just hold on
So you hold on

Your eyes they face down and your years you count down
You place more value on the penny than the wishing well
Count up your troubles and count up your sorrows and
Count up Prince Charming til the numbers are alarming
You find your medals at the Bedrock Super Saver
You’ve come to realize
Even time is never in your favor
You’re fast becoming just another common misbehavior

But drink it down girl
It tastes a lot like liquor
Come join our book club you can
Watch us wine and bicker
But don’t forget your stickers - that fish will bring you luck

You will become all that you can become
If you just hold on
So you hold on

But hold on, hey hold on
What you talking bout
Hold on, hey hold on
What you talking about
Hold on, hey hold on
What you talking about
Hold on, hold on

We Could Be Flying

This city is dark
It takes the spark from out of your soul
This city lies
It takes all your dreams and buries them whole

There are so many stories of the ones who never made it out
So many times you called me filled with doubt

And I wanted to tell you
We could be healing or we could keep dying
I wanted to show you
There’s never a ceiling
We could be flying

You try to be hard.. you try to be cold.. you try to be cool
But it’s calling your bluff
You’re never enough
You’re everyone’s fool

You kiss the one you fear the most… you call it close
The girl you said you’d be is just a ghost

And I wanted to tell you
We could be healing or we could keep dying
I wanted to show you
There’s never a ceiling
We could be flying

It’s a long way home to go without any road
